What Cord collects, what stays encrypted so that even we cannot read it, and the choices you have.
The short version
Cord is an app for married couples on iPhone, Android and the web. It is operated by HopeBegins Today Organization (“we”, “us”), which is responsible for the personal information described here. This policy covers the Cord app and this website.
Privacy questions go to hello@cordedmarriages.com.
What we can see depends on the kind of information. This table is the whole picture.
| Information | Why we have it | Can we read it? |
|---|---|---|
| Your email address, and an account identifier if you sign in with Apple or Google | To create your account and let you sign in | Yes |
| The names on your accounts, your role in the marriage, and the link between your account and your spouse’s | So the service knows which two people share a marriage, and who may see what | Yes |
| Check-ins, chat, prayers, journals, goals, money records, dates and events, memories, conflicts, lists, chores, the vault, moods, habits, reading logs, rewards, and your settings | To store your marriage and keep it in sync across your devices | No — encrypted on your device first |
| Names, notes and logs you record about your children | The same | No — encrypted on your device first |
| Photographs you add | The same | No — each file is encrypted before upload |
| Posts, accountability threads, challenges and meetups in a circle you join | To share them with that circle, and to enforce who inside it may read them | Yes — see circles |
| Messages you send to support | To answer you | Yes |
| Subscription status: seats, plan, renewal date, and whether a payment succeeded | To give you the plan you chose | Yes. We never receive your card details |
| Record identifiers, timestamps, and a device identifier created by the app | To keep your devices in sync | Yes. They show that something changed, not what |
Cord asks for a permission only when you use the feature that needs it, and you can say no:
Your marriage’s records are sealed on your device with XChaCha20-Poly1305 before they are sent, and they travel over an encrypted (TLS) connection. The key is protected by your password and by a recovery code shown to you once during setup. Neither the key nor your password is ever sent to us.
Keep your recovery code safe. Because we cannot read your data, we cannot reset access to it either. If you lose both your password and your recovery code, the encrypted records cannot be recovered by anyone — including us.
A circle is a private, invite-only group of several couples. Because it spans more than one marriage, and because the rooms inside it — the husbands’ room, the wives’ room and one-to-one threads — are enforced by our database, circle content is not end-to-end encrypted. It can be read by the members allowed into each room, and by us. If you never join a circle, nothing you write is stored this way. Please share in a circle only what you are comfortable with that circle, and with us, being able to see.
We do not use your information for advertising, we do not build profiles of you, and we do not sell or rent your information to anyone.
We rely on a small number of service providers, who process information only to provide their service to us:
Inside Cord, your spouse sees what the two of you share, and circle members see what you post in their room. We may disclose information when the law requires it; encrypted records can only ever be disclosed as the unreadable data we hold. Our providers may process information outside the Philippines, with safeguards appropriate to the service.
Cord is made for married adults and is not directed to children. Accounts are for people aged 18 or over. Parents may record information about their own children in the app; that information is encrypted like the rest of the marriage. If we learn that a child has created an account, we will delete it.
Under the Philippine Data Privacy Act of 2012 (Republic Act No. 10173), and similar laws where you live, you have the right to be informed about how your information is used, to access it, to correct it, to object to its processing, to have it erased, and to receive a copy of it. For anything else, email hello@cordedmarriages.com. We may ask you to confirm that the account is yours.
If you believe your information has been mishandled, you can also complain to the National Privacy Commission of the Philippines at privacy.gov.ph.
You can ask us to delete your account at any time, without signing in. Delete your account explains what is removed and how.
This website sets no cookies and uses no analytics. Like any website, it is served by a hosting provider that receives your IP address and basic request details in order to deliver the page, and its fonts are loaded from Google Fonts.
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. If a change materially affects how your information is handled, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect.
